Empty Chairs, Empty Tables
(from Les Miserables)
There's a grief that can't be spoken
There's a pain goes on and on
Empty chairs at empty tables
Now my friends are dead and gone.
Here they talked of revolution
Here it was they lit the flame
Here they sang about 'tomorrow'
And tomorrow never came
From the table in the corner
They could see a world reborn
And they rose with voices ringing
I can hear them now
The very words that they had sung
Became their last communion
On the lonely barricade at dawn!
Oh my friends, my friends, forgive me
That i live and you are gone.
There's a grief that can't be spoken
There's a pain goes on and on.
Phantom faces at the window
Phantom shadows on the floor
Empty chairs at empty tables
Where my friends will meet no more.
Oh my friends, my friends, don't ask me
What your sacrifice was for
Empty chairs at empty tables
Where my friends will sing no more.

Creative leadership: my thoughts
"As a communicator, it's not enough that you inspire, inform, or educate; you need to transform people."
In a nutshell that's what the talk I attended (just this afternoon) tried to point out. Strong as the words are, it got me thinking: Am I a creative leader? Have I succeeded in transforming people through my work?
I've been in the biz for four years now. I used to write for a major daily and now I guide student-journalists in their pursuit of coming up with quality student publications.
Throughout the years, I can say that I've felt fulfillment many times. I can say that my career has gone great guns for a long time. With a rich experience in tow, I can say that I'm ready for whatever battle life may throw me.
But during the talk, I found myself asking: Am I really doing something worthwhile with my life? Does what I have right now enough? Is this the path I should be trudging?
I got the answer to these pressing questions from the talk.
I've always had what I need, the speaker stressed. And, not to brag, I 'd like to agree that what I needed all the while was just inside me, waiting to be discovered. And this same belief applies to everyone. You may just be too preoccupied worrying about the ills of the world that you have forgotten the good in yourself and the good in the world.
Anyway, I just thought I'd share with you this transformative experience. No doubt, I was transformed by the words of the speaker. Unfortunately, I forgot her name. But, still, Miss Speaker, thank you for the valuable words.

I'm now reading Chapter 12 of the book. So far, what I can say is that I'm not as glued with the book as with the other books.
After finishing this HP sequel, I may write a review on this. Do watch out for that.
